BaltHUB – Report on the visits to Ukraine and Poland, 2024

Dear EHPV staff members and colleagues,

I hope this message finds you well. Thank you for your continuous support and engagement in supporting Ukrainian refugees in Estonia.

We are pleased to share with you the detailed report on our recent study and introduction tour to Poland and Ukraine, which took place from May 13-24, 2024. The report highlights our key activities, meetings, and the impactful collaborations established during the visit. The trip was organized within BaltHUB project lead by EHPV.

This trip was instrumental in enhancing our collective efforts to support vulnerable communities, including Ukrainian refugees and individuals living with HIV, in the Baltic and Nordic regions.

During our study tour to Poland and Ukraine, we formalized 2 key partnerships through Memorandums of Understanding with HelpNowHUB and Alliance Consultancy.

We engaged with over 12 key organizations across nearly 20 meetings, connecting with more than 50 professionals, healthcare providers, social workers, and community members. We visited 3 shelters providing safe spaces for up to 50 LGBTQ+ individuals.

Our efforts expanded health services, including HIV testing, PrEP distribution, and the opening of the Help24 TeleHealth office in Kyiv – providing telemedicine to KP and PLHIV. We also participated in the AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day and advanced legislative and human rights discussions with local activists. Our visit underscored the importance of collaboration, information exchange, and continuous support for vulnerable communities.

You can access the full report here: Report link

We believe the insights and outcomes documented in this report will be valuable for our ongoing and future initiatives.

Thank you for your continued support and collaboration.

If you will have any questions, please, feel free to reach me out.

What an incredible time we had during the Karlova Days! 🌈 Vikerkaarekohv, in collaboration with amazing team from Peemoti Keskus, brought something truly special to the event.

We served up our now-famous rainbow waffles (yes they are famous now, I wont explain further), which were a hit among everyone who stopped by. It was heartwarming to see so many faces, both familiar and new, coming together to share in the joy and the vibrant atmosphere we created.

You could definitely say we had a “GAY OF A TIME”! 🏳️‍🌈☕️ Thank you to everyone who showed up and made this experience unforgettable. Your support means the world to us, and we can’t wait to bring even more color and flavor to your lives. Stay tuned for further collaborations together with @peemotikeskus

But really guys… Thank you! It was really fun :).

May 19 Lighting of candles

TALLINN

On May 19, 2024, a ceremony was held in Tammsaare Park to commemorate those who have died from AIDS. Participants gathered to honor the memory of those who lost their lives to this disease. The light from the candles lit in the park symbolized hope and unity in the fight against the AIDS epidemic, as well as support for those living with HIV.

During the ceremony, a red ribbon was laid out, which has become an international symbol of solidarity and awareness about HIV/AIDS. This act emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to spread information on prevention, treatment, and support for people affected by this disease. The ribbon also served as a reminder of the need to combat the prejudices and stigmatization faced by people living with HIV.

The event brought together people of different ages and professions, demonstrating public support and solidarity. Participants expressed hope that such events would help draw attention to the problem of AIDS and inspire active measures to improve the situation. The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial became an important reminder that everyone can contribute to the fight against this epidemic.

NARVA

On May 17th, as part of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT)

On May 17th, as part of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT), an important presentation of a study on the status of men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender people took place in Estonia. This event marked a significant step towards raising awareness about the issues faced by these communities.

The study revealed numerous serious problems, including high levels of discrimination, stigmatization, and insufficient medical and psychological support. The presentation featured not only statistical data but also personal stories from participants, which helped to provide a deeper understanding of the context and the real situation. Participants expressed hope that the study’s results would serve as a foundation for further actions.
